Always Remember

Tear gas, water hoses

Clubs and guns

Church bombings and Cross-burnings

Red blood runs

Hatred and fear rule in deviated hearts

It took peaceful disobedience

For Hope to finally step in

While Love overcomes

Black, Brown, White, Yellow, and Native man–

A link of brotherhood in hands

Marching for freedom and unity

They risked their lives for you and I

To live the abundant life

Today, remember the sacrifice

Of those who came before us

And how far we have come

Look toward the future

Never turn back!

I wrote “Always Remember,” in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King’s birthday.
